I mean, it was ok. I know that mystery is usually a miss for me, especially adult mystery. But even besides that, I just wasn't vibing with the narrative voice of each of the characters. Nor was I interested in the characters at all. The spotted explicit scenes or mentions were just awkward. And any attempts at humor or lightening the mood, if that's what they were, just came at awkward times and fell flat.

But I was intrigued by the story itself. By the mystery in it and the world building. I could have used more of the world building, but I guess that's for book 2. I'm a fan of Daniel Greene's YouTube channel so, while I won't continue this particular series, I look forward to read any others.

Update after having read Rebel's Creed: the two books should've been merged into one. If you're interested in this world/story, definitely keep reading the series, worth it.

This was pretty cliché and doesn't contain much depth, but it presents somewhat decent intrigue with the plot. And it's fast paced. Very easy read. Definitely not a bad debut novella, but not great. Plenty of room for improvement.

Dark, mysterious, and heartbreaking. This short book packs a massive punch, can’t wait for the sequel to be uploaded.

Well, colour me surprised. I was definitely skeptical in picking this up but I am pleased to have given this a chance after all. I really enjoyed this story. The intrigue worked for me and the plot moved at a good pace. I'm looking forward to reading the next entry in the series and seeing how the world expands. I'm also excited to see how Greene's writing improves over time.

I've been wanting to read this book for a long time now, but it was so expensive here in Brazil. I thankfully got a good deal and was able to afford a copy.

I haven't read fantasy themed stories in a long time, despite my ever-present interest in getting into the genre. So "Breach of Peace" was kind of a first to me in this area, and I found it quite promising. It features a place where a God figure is worshipped, in what seems like a half modern, half medieval setting. I enjoyed the investigative tone and the pacing, although I think it might've been a bit too much to happen in just a day, considering the suspicions and evidences involved. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience to read.

But it wasn't so memorable, despite my efforts to really like this story. Being a viewer of his Youtube channel, I'm rooting for Greene's writer career, and I think he has all the potential. This is his first novella, and there's plenty room for improvement. To me, the main issue is the lack of detail of... well, everything. The story happens quite quickly, and there's really no description of any scenarios, almost. The cover was the only hint of the world this is set in. This also goes for the characters. I wasn't able to create much of a connection with them, 'cause I barely know them. Despite the outage on information, the story goes as if I'm supposedly relating to them in some way. There was just one, and I mean just one paragraph telling a little more about Khlid and Samuel's relationship, for instance. And that's it, not considering the little crumbs given here and there. I really want to like this world, because it seems interesting, but I just don't know.

It feels like this is just a short introduction to a bigger story (and I believe this is the case, as the second book has more than double the size, if not three times more!), and I'm hoping it turns into a very good introduction when I read the sequel. Greene's writing style is good, nothing particularly special, with just a few slops here and there. But the thing is, there is room for improvement, and I'm looking forward to reading the sequel!

Now, I just have to wait for another sale, 'cause good lord, imported books are one hell of an expensive thing.
