I couldn’t deal with the slavery aspect, and
I read ahead the ending of her just accepting to be a mistress and advisor when she was a queen.. A GOOD QUEEN. I hate a weak FMC.

Joanna is Queen of Valentia and is trying to make changes in her kingdom for changelings, especially after her best friend turned and became a changeling. Fae changelings are dangerous, and only females turn into fae changelings and try to enter the Fae world through the Fae gate, but to prevent that from happening and giving the Fae power to possibly come to war with humans again, they are collared and become pets by Lord Merrick who oversees the operation. Joanna wants to stop what he does and stop having changelings from becoming pleasure slaves until, one day, she turns and she’s sent to Merrick’s establishment.

This was an intense read. I will admit not very comfortable with the collaring and leashing that happens in here, which is why I love Joanna’s tenacity and fire when trying to defy Merrick and make changes despite being a changeling herself. This is a very steamy read, but there was a major plot line too which always makes me happy when a steamy romance is not just about the intimate scenes, but also has a story and a well rounded one at that! This even had some mystery and suspense mixed into it!

In the end, I really did enjoy this book and the intensity of it. This is definitely a dark romance and not for the faint of heart! I received a free digital copy to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The author did a good job of developing the queen before she became a changeling which really helped invest with her fall. Wish we could have seen more training and use of the pleasure slaves and I could have done without the falling in love at the end but I'll read it again for sure.

Took this book to a long weekend at the cabin knowing I would have plenty of time to read it. What I did not anticipate was reading this in one day and wanting more. While the first portion of the book did not have a lot of story, I felt there was enough to continue to push the story.

I nearly DNF'd this in the first hundred pages - the non-con was a little much for me.  I strongly disliked the MMC due to this.  The story did keep me hanging on though, and in the end I did like the redemption arc/resolution.

What an EXCELLENT addition to the universe. It was so interesting seeing another side to the humans and Fae.

The dynamic between Johanna and Merrick was smoking hot and the switch between the two when she turned... *chef's kiss*

Can't wait to add these to my shelves.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
