An American Indian Cinderella story. Wonderful!

My only concern is that, Cinderella is not a Native American folklore, changing the facts within the legend takes from the authenticity. Reading this reminds me of The Rough-Faced Girl by Rafe Martin, a water downed version. A good read that children will enjoy, especially since it relates it to Cinderella. I would recommend folklore by Bruchac and Tim Tingle for authentic Native American folklore.

I'm slightly hesistent about using this story as neither author nor illustrator are Native American. I'm not a fan of the illustrations and I prefer the work of Robert San Souci when paired up with Jerry or Brian Pinkney. I might use this if I was doing a fairy-folk-tale unit but I would probably seek out a version that is more culturally relevant.
