This is one of those books that I had to read in high school but never really paid attention to. I know I at least semi-read it then because I remembered for the most part what happens. But I decided to do a re-read since that was well before I was on Goodreads and doing reviews in order to remember what books I like and don't like.

I can't tell you what I thought of it then but now I found it kind of boring and dull. I get there's a message in there but I can't really understand what that message would be. Perhaps sometimes friends have to do hard things that are both right and wrong at the same time? I'm not sure.

Mostly it just seems like a story about life being miserable and there being nothing you can do about changing that -- which is a pretty depressing outlook on life if you ask me...

—Creí que te habías enfadado conmigo, George.
—No, Lennie. No estoy enfadado. Nunca me enfadé, y menos ahora. Quiero que sepas eso.

5 stars. oh, Lennie. what is there to say about Of Mice and Men that hasn't been said about Steinbeck's work already? gripping, devastating, a picture painted of the American Dream that is made from the suffering of others. its difficult to point towards any character as being at fault for the events that transpire, yet at the same time they all feel responsible for the climax of the story and devastating heartbreak that follows. one of those books that stays with you, and teaches you a lesson -- even if you're not exactly what that is.

It’s fine. I was charmed by the large and lovable oaf Lennie, and I think the writing style is pretty good. My big problem is that it’s so obvious that Steinbeck wanted this to be adapted to a play. You write books, not plays you coward! Have some spine! Real artists of a medium should have the utmost contempt for other mediums. Movie writers and TV writers should always be at each other’s throats. You can’t play both sides!
