Elementary-level biographies tend to be, well... y'know... but this Graphic Biographies entry about the overlooked North Pole explorer is a breathe of fresh air. The book deals honestly and frankly with the reality of Henson's life (racism) and his (exploited) relationship with Robert Peary. The Inuit men that guided the expedition to the Pole (Seegloo, Ootah, Egingwah, and Ooqueah) are given due credit. And there are some surprisingly funny zingers (“Peary works for a devil more powerful than Tahnusuk. It’s called the U.S. Navy.”). A cut above the norm.
