Read this alongside watching the 1971 Richard Burton version - found the acting and content so creepy - I think it was supposed to be funny but was far off the mark

beautifully and lyrically written, this peice of writing is most compelling when watched/listened to so i read it alongside the richard burton film and fell in love with this small welsh town. i love stories like this where nothing happens and if you do too you will love this book!

I got to the end and wanted to start reading it over again. I love the lyrical language and apt and funny turns of phrases and descriptions. It's a gentle and funny look at a Welsh sea-town over the course of about 24 hours. It was fun to read, but now I'd also like to hear it or get people together and just do a reading ourselves... [2013]

Amazing language! And about time I ws introduced to this... [2003]

This is a feast of poetic drama - somewhere between Ulysses and Our Town.
