This was not as good as I had hoped it wood be, however it was slightly less crappy than Eric Weingardt told me it would be ;-)

This was the first Terry Brooks book that i have read. I have owned a few over the years but never the guts to read any of them. The reason could possibly have been that stigma that terry brooks "stole", "ripped", or "copied" Tolkien's stories. If that bothers me is not an issue for this review or whether it is true. NTL This book was amazing leaving off in a cliff hanger that force me, oh darn, to get a hold of the second volume. This post apocalyptic story, 50 years post, paints a picture of how the human race can be turned as a whole to varying degrees of evil. Good still tries to prevail but throughout the book it seems it is a loosing fight. Besides it being on my Fantasy shelf it sits up there as well with my personal post apocalyptic book The Stand by Stephen King. To me Terry Brooks has made a name for himself with Armageddon's Children.

I really enjoyed this book. it's a face paced read. The beginning is a bit slow as there are a lot of characters to introduce. I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

My first Terry Brooks...not my usual type of book, but I really enjoyed it nonetheless. Eager to read the second one and then the Shannara series.

The setting is interesting and at first I like the element of fantasy/magic mixed with the post apocalyptic world, but I soon realized it made situations to convenient, like it was an easy excuse to get out of situations. I really tried but I'm so tired of the subject of good triumphing over evil, it's boring to me at this point and the characters were too predictable. I gave it 3 stars bc I could see how someone else might like it, for me personally it was 1 star.

I thoroughly enjoyed this start to another trilogy in the underrated Shannara series. It's high praise when you can say that the worst thing about the book is that you are left wanting more and have to read the next book to continue the story.
