I loved The Butterfly Garden (5⭐️). The Roses of May was pretty good too (4⭐️). I also enjoyed The Summer Children (3⭐️) so I was extremely disappointed with this book.
Nothing happens in the first 20% of the book when I had my first thought to DNF it and then continued to fight the urge to abandon it the entirety of the book. I just hated the thought of having to DNF a book when I loved all the ones in the series before it. But it never got any better.
It’s such a repetitive book where I’m sure the whole story could’ve been told in 75 pages. The first 20% was just a recap of what happened in the last books and reminding us that our main character is just such a pretty young blonde agent with blue eyes and loves all things pink and girly. Over and over again throughout the whole book.
Then we learn that a girl has been kidnapped but don’t really get much more than that until at the 50% mark when they look at a picture and notice a guy they’ve seen before. This is supposed to be a team of FBI investigators and all I know is that Sterling looks like the kidnapped girls and Bran likes his coffee black (jet fuel*).
Now that they know who did it, Sterling has to spend the time doing her hair and makeup and changing her clothes to look like the girls that this man has been killing just to make him feel some sort of way. Why is the FBI wasting time hunting down someone with a curling iron instead of driving to the suspect’s house as fast as they can, especially considering he has a kidnapped little girl in his house RIGHT NOW??
Then they have to take the suspect to the hospital because he had a panic attack and now he just doesn’t remember anything and thinks it’s 20 years ago and is just some confused old man when he’s been eluding the FBI for decades??? And then that’s all we hear of him? We don’t even know if he went to prison or what???? They asked him like 3 questions and when he was confused the FBI are just like oh well guess this is it???

This book was annoying. If I didn’t have 8 hrs a day at work to listen to audiobooks I never would’ve put up with this. Didn’t enjoy the narrator or the book. Honestly confused how the same author of the butterfly garden (a book I didn’t even want to end) wrote this.

Stunning conclusion to the series.

“The Vanishing Season” really made the team feel like a family in all the ways the previous book lacked for me. The characters felt more realistic, more human. At chapter 26 I started crying and didn’t stop until the final page.

Really enjoyed this for the last book! Definitely allows for some closure. First time I cried during the series!
