I dunno. Children's stories just seem to please me always.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Woodsworth edition doesn't have the word "Wonderful") is about a girl named Dorothy who gets carried away by a disaster. She found herself in a place different from Kansas... and wonderful things started from there.

Since this is intended for younger readers, the writing style is simple and straightforward. Because of this, a lot of things happened in a less-than-150-page book. I enjoyed this book very much. My petty brain got a break from The Dark Tower.

The story is full of remarkable characters. Dorothy's Ka-tet (lol) is a great bunch. They are fun and have their own distinct traits. Perhaps the most remarkable for me is the Tin Woodman, mainly because of his dark backstory. I mean... that's kinda messed up, even for me.

For a children's book, this book is kinda bloody. There's a lot of decapitation. Lol.

Overall, five stars. This is a good light read. You should read this if you need a break from heavy novels.

I'm interested to read the other installments in the series.

You have plenty of courage, I am sure," answered Oz. "All you need is confidence in yourself. There is no living thing that is not afraid when it faces danger. The true courage is in facing danger when you are afraid, and that kind of courage you have in plenty.

Now... onto the last book of The Dark Tower series!

I spent way too long reading this. With being out of my routine with summer break and then not having notifications on, I just kept forgetting to do my daily read. I finally committed myself to finishing it and I am glad I did. I thought the story was good. It was a bit more violent than either of the movies. If you have watched both the classic movie and the newer movie Oz, the book shows you where, they each got a lot of their ideas. It’s a good family read.

i remember my mom reading to me the russian retelling of this story by alexander volkov when i was little and from what i can remember it was superior to this original. this book was cute and magical and all but it lacked in something else that i can't place. it just was less exciting.

I LOVE The Wizard of Oz movie so I decided to pick up the book and give it a whirl. I had very low expectations, not really sure why, but this book was amazing. I'm almost mad it took me 29 yrs to read it!!

The movie and book don't even compare. Both are great in their own right but the book is far better. Dorothy goes on a big adventure, of course, but it's far greater and more things happen. You are introduced to ALL 4 witches even if it's super brief, there are way more lands she visits, and way more characters. :)

I know it's a children's tale but so much happens with no consequences at all, it's just characters solving problem after problem in 2 anticlimatic lines everytime... quite boring and not that engaging
