Well I will say it seemed this book was no stop action from about page 6 until the end. Annja Creed managed to stay constantly on the run or fighting someone nearly the full duration of the story. And the author did a good job of keeping the reader in the dark about the main mystery of the story: the significance of a single coin. However, I couldn't help but feel the story was a little trite, the reasons behind the men wanting the coin a little exaggerated too far, Annja a little too idealized. That being said I am going to give the second book a chance. I hope it doesn't destroy my suspension of disbelief as this one did, and that I am able to enjoy it a little more.

I liked this book. I can tell the whole series can be formulaic, but I still would like to see what happens next.

Not at all what I was expecting but a pleasant surprise! Annja is feisty and really enjoyed the interaction between characters. The level of history is brilliant but then that's my area of interest :) I will definitely be reading the next in series!

Archaeologist Annja Creed is in France trying to find material for a piece on a local monster for a sensational TV show. Annja ends up finding that the beast really existed, but the most pressing mystery is to figure out why she is being followed by assassins and a brotherhood of monks. Turns out Annja's destiny is bigger than she ever thought as she ends up with a magic sword that only obeys to her.

I'm assuming this is the type of series filled with adventures that involve Annja kicking and fighting bad guys whilst solving puzzles and ancient mysteries. I am hoping for some character development along the way, but for now this was very entertaining!

I bought this book just before leaving for England and never got around to reading it. Oops.

This book was...okay. It's quick, would work well as a beach read, but at risky of sounding haughty wasn't at my usual level of reading. There didn't feel to be a lot of depth here. The action was great - this would work well as a movie - but I found the characters not super engaging and the mysteries didn't really grab my attention. But if you just want something you can start and finish in a weekend, this is probably what you want.

Some religious overtones, not a lot. More female Indiana Jones than Lara Croft. Harkens back to the days of pulps and serials, which isn't a bad thing. It doesn't try to be anything other than escapism, and sometimes that's what a person needs/wants. I'll definitely check out some of the other books.

First book in the Rogue Angel series. Very Witchblade meets Tomb Raider/Relic Hunter, although Annja is far more modestly dressed than either of those two ladies. It's fluffy mindless entertainment with a fairly decent heroine. That she's nearly the only female character in the book is a little worrying.
