This book is a really difficult read for about 2/3rds of the way through. The author warns you that it will be and explains why and they were correct. The last 1/3rd of the book was riveting from a courts and justice perspective. I'm glad I bought and read this book; it. I felt like this was non exploitative to the victims and their families and did not turn the murderers into celebrities.

This is a FANTASTIC read! Recommend to anyone who enjoys true crime.

It reads somewhat like a fiction book (I mean, there’s dialogue, friends), especially at the beginning, and has incredible detail that is worked into the book so well that it never feels overwhelming. Super interested to read other books by this author!

This case is maddening and incredibly sick, however I enjoyed learning about it as I’d never heard of it before (strange, I’m a true crime fanatic). It goes through each and every crime, plus everything that happened subsequently leading to the capture of the killers and their trial.

I would 100% read this again — one of the best true crime stories I’ve ever read!

The things humans do to each other is more terrifying than any monster born of fiction. Not sure it’s correct to say I “enjoyed” this narrative nonfiction, but I found the format v engaging. The descriptions of their crimes turned my stomach, and I’ll admit to be a bit hardened to depictions of violence.

People were extra heinous in the 60 -70s. Leaded gas ruined a whole ass generation imo

Although I had some issues with the first part of the book I thought the rest of the book was very well-written and researched. The first chapters of the book came across as a fiction writer writing true crime (exactly what it is). I didn't like the supposed conversations between the killers that had no basis in fact. Once I got through all that though things were well researched and kept me interested in the material. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in true crime or the Hillside Strangers case specifically.
