Being away from this world for so long, did make it hard to jump back in. I had to find the groove of it again, but once I did I had a fantastic time. It has a good mystery to it with a conclusion I honestly did not see coming.
We of course have more mentions of our big bad (is he gone or isn't he?) and the romance does move forward, but it isn't highlighted, as usual.

This world and the characters really are the best at sweeping me away to different worlds. I'm really excited for the next books :D

Before publication:

I don't even need to know what this is about to be overly excited to read it. The last book has left me feeling so many emotions and I will be overjoyed to jump back into this series when this book comes out.

Solid and entertaining.  I quite like a few of the ideas.

I started this series because I thought the premise was fun. Weak, but fun. I mean, stealing books to keep the balance between order and chaos in check? Um...how, exactly does stealing books do that? Oh, we don’t talk about that... But who cares? We’re having fun, the characters are quirky and quippy, and I was willing to overlook the obvious flaws in the logic of it all. Who needs logic when you have dragons and fairies, right?

Well, this installment went and ruined that by shining a very bright light on the weakest point of the whole series — the politics. Why, exactly, is the Library involved in this political struggle? Oh right... the Library maintains the balance between the two sides. Wait... how, exactly? No, we don’t talk about that... The whole premise never made any sense, but now there’s nothing to distract us from it. It’s the plot of the book!

The characters aren’t having any fun here. Kai might as well not be there, and when he is, he’s phoning it in. Even finally getting Kai and Irene together couldn’t save this stinker.

This one was a bit of a let down. The plot was convoluted and a lot of the new characters were throw away. The mystery was not very mysterious, the love story not very romantic and where as Main Character Irene flirted with Mary Sue status in previous book she fully crossed the line here. I read Redshirts shortly before this one and the idea of "The Narrative" seemed very prevalent to me. Every time Irene went in half assed and half cocked, she somehow came out on top (please do not ever elbow someone in the balls who has a garotte wire around your neck, that action WILL kill you) and when her companions tried someting similar they would enivitably fail despite often being better prepared. This series seems to be losing steam. I'm not sure I'm going to be continuing on.
