Another quick read, Morvern Callar is the tale of a girl from a tiny port town in Scotland (has to be Oban I think), who returns from work to find her boyfriend has killed himself. What follows is a tale of lost youths in a small town, a series of self discoveries, and a large amount of dark humour. A lazy critic on the blurb has called it "Trainspotting for girl," but the only parallel I can see is employing a large amount of local slang. It's in equally parts mortifying and uplifting, as Morvern tries to escape her dead end town and friends. A great, easy, and very quick read.
