3rd story in the collection put me off - the combination of infidelity and cannibalism grossed me out too much

Just not in the mood for surrealist speculative horror right now. Will definitely pick it back up at a later time though.

There are some wild, unsettling, magical stories in this collection. It took me three stories to truly get into this, but when I did, it was worth it.

sooo strange and creepy and sad a lot of the time. not the kind of magical realism i have encountered before, a little nightmarish but also cathartic seeming? at least based on the acknowledgment section (she said she wrote these during a really hard and dark time of her life, and that definitely seeps through in her stories imo)? the licorice woman melting and the wire umbilical cords and other freaky occurrences will stay lodged in my brain for a while, i think

I can see why people would love this but it’s not for me.

Very weird, I'm not into analysing literature enough to enjoy this book

It was beautifully written but there was too much magic realism for my tastes. Have recommended to Bracken
