I really enjoyed this start to the newest series and am looking forward to where the plot and the characters will go. I've never been up-to-date with Warrior cats before, so starting "A Starless Clan" is extra exciting for me. I have a few complaints/concerns, but nothing so dramatic that it prevented me from enjoying this book. In fact, most of my problems are inherent to Warriors as a series, rather than occurring in just this one book.

I worry that the trio of protagonists are too similar to those in "A Broken Code." Of course, I loved Bristlefrost, Shadowsight, and Rootspring, but I am afraid that Flamepaw, Frostaw, and Sunbeam with reenact the dynamic of star-crossed lovers accompanied by an unfortunate medicine cat. I would prefer more variety in the characters than that, but I recognize that Warriors has never been very good at avoiding stock characters (the eager apprentice, the kind mentor, the cranky elder, and so on).

I've also noticed that there are some strange plot devices in "A Starless Clan," namely the sudden obsession ThunderClan has with comparing Flamepaw to his distant ancestor, Firestar. It's strange to shoehorn this conflict into the seventh series, when it wasn't present in any of the others (at least, not to this extent, and it makes little sense as to why Flamepaw is the subject of such scrutiny).

Nevertheless, I'm willing to forgive and accept this plot device, because I'm enjoying the conflicts in "A Starless Clan." I especially love how the repercussions of "A Broken Code" are being addressed, specifically through Bramblestar's difficulty to remain a stern leader after all that has happened. Also, every plot point in RiverClan has made me shriek (with both shock and delight), pause my audiobook, and text my friend live updates, as though the drama of these fictional cats was happening in real time.

On the whole, I feel as though the Warrior cats books have improved over time, replacing nostalgia with interesting characters and conflicts. I am eager for the next book to be released, and I am looking forward to staying caught up throughout this newest series!

I enjoy warriors though this one wasn't slow but it wasn't fast either.. I love Nightheart and how he stood up saying he wasn't firestar. Honestly I love firestar but he had his time in the first 4 series and then last TBC book. Nightheart is probably my favorite protagonist this arc so far
