This is science fiction at its best.  Becky Chambers makes you feel warm and cozy while really exploring your inner motivations and challenging your worldview.  I wanted to rush through this book because it was so amazing and slow down and savor it because it is my last one until she writes more.

Reading this book is like following a stream through a perfect forest: it's calming and beautiful, the most interesting moments are created when the water hits a few stones with remarkable surfaces, and there are some unexpected turns. For me, those turns always ended up choosing the path that left me feeling happiest. Becky Chambers' writing was as brilliant as always, I loved the characters and the relationships they built in such a short time span, and overall this was a worthy ending to a series that I've enjoyed very much. I definitely intend to reread these four books in the future.

I kind of don’t want to write a review for this because (as much as it breaks my heart to admit it) this was my least favourite book in the Wayfarers series.

It sucks even more because this is the final book of the series! A series I have adored! But I just can’t help but think it was missing something? I cried at the end, as per usual, but my investment in the characters took a long time to develop, and the story didn’t feel as meaningful as the other three. I can’t put my finger on exactly what I didn’t like as much, but it’s there, somewhere.

I’ve written in previous reviews of this series that I often walk away feeling an immense sense of satisfaction at a story well-told. Unfortunately, that feeling was absent this time. It was still a good book and I enjoyed it, but it just didn’t strike the same chord as the others. Definitely worth a read if you’re a fan of the series, but just be aware that you might not enjoy it as much.

As always just a wonderful experience diving into Chamber's delightful slice of life with aliens - this time all-alien edition! And while it's bittersweet that this is the finale in a series with still so much potential, knowing that things stay strong throughout make this easy to recommend. This entry leans a little more on the 'let's exposit alien cultures' stuff that I didn't connect with as much from the first book, and of the 5 characters, two felt just sliiiiightly less developed. While this isn't my favorite entry of the four, it's just a wonderful time, and highly recommend it every time.
