Really interesting, quirky comic. I was going to give it four stars, but when I closed it after finishing it, I finally noticed the hidden art on the cover and I was WAY impressed by the design that went into this book.

Read for the "Read the States" Challenge for: Arkansas

This is an very powerful graphic novel. The colors are lovely, all blue and black and white, with a very strong, uniquely told story. It explores a lot of thematic elements in a way I almost want to call "whimsical," but I feel that's perhaps too light-hearted a term for this.

This graphic novel is stunning. The art, the concept, the characters, the story... They're absolutely wonderful. As someone who grew up in a broken home in rural Arkansas, this story hit home in so, so many ways for me and touched a deep sore spot that I have for stories about children having to grow up at an age that is far too early.

This is a fantastic debut from a local artist and author, and I can't wait to see what they come out with in the future.

This was absolutely delightful, poignant, and bittersweet. A quiet melancholic rumination with stunning black, white, and blue art that perfectly captures the mood.

If you're looking for a different spin on Norse mythology, I highly recommend this! Will be looking for more work by this author and artist now!

Just beautiful. A great mix of realism of fantasy, both story wise and art wise.

3.5 stars. This started a bit slow for me, but most first volumes are in my opinion because they require some setup. I requested the library to purchase Long Walk to Valhalla because I love Norse myth, and the blurb intrigued me. While Rory is the protagonist, I found myself preferring Sylvia and even Joe more than him. But I've always been quite partial to Valkyries. :]

Looking forward to the next one!

Heartfelt and reflective. I wish there were more here, but it's ultimately a heartfelt look at the ways that families can perpetuate unhappy dynamics and how trauma a grief can be as difficult to deal with as other battles.

Not sure how to feel about this one. I'm definitely ambiguous about the ending.
