Thank you NetGalley and Penguin for this eCopy to review
Nightwatching has a fantastic start, full of fear and tension as a strange man enters the family home forcing the mother to hide with her 2 children. Unfortunately, there are then many flashbacks which slow the story down and all the fear is lost. It was difficult to connect with the characters as they are never named. There are many twists which have you questioning everything you read just like the police do with the mother. The ending is very gripping. Highly terrifying in places definitely not one to read when on your own

I feel really conflicted about this one 🤣 I’m going to give it 3 ⭐️
It’s a story about a woman and her two kids and you start right in the middle of a home invasion. The first couple of chapters really sucked me in, and then it was broken up by glimpses into her past. Some of the flashbacks were relevant, others weren’t and I felt took away from the suspense/intensity of it all. The last 75ish pages were reaaaally good, and it made me realize what was missing throughout the entire book. I just felt checked out early on, but still needed to know how it ended so I couldn’t DNF.

Late one night, a mother living in an isolated part of New England with her two small children hears an intruder in her house. Thriller ensues!
This book was a page turner for me. It reads like a true crime novel at times; it feels so real.
My only gripe was the seemingly unnecessary details about her relationship with her father in law amongst other things that made me think "why is this in here?" But overall definitely creepy and good debut.

Moderate: Child abuse, Confinement, Gun violence, Pedophilia, Violence, Stalking, Death of parent, Murder, and Injury/Injury detail
