Really beautiful written but slow moving and I wasn’t in the mood. Would love to pick it up later.

Learned a tremendous amount about how long ago (before the First World War) the Palestinian conflict existed and onwards.

I loved Enter Ghost. This one just didn’t do it for me. I made it over 100 pages. It’s giving a Gentleman in Moscow vibes.

i’ll likely try again at some point because on premise this book should be interesting - but the more i read, the less i felt engaged by or even understood the narrative and the character of midhat. he and the rest of the characters felt increasingly lacklustre, with more and more characters introduced without conjuring any real narrative interest - i just got even more confused on what the point of the book is and would be, where it was heading. the palestinian and wartime backdrop felt generally detached from midhat, and midhat himself seemed detached from any narrative arc - nothing was happening! maybe fresh eyes will pick something up next time
