Lord's use of the epistolary form has stood the test of 20 years. Her incisive missives interrogate what it means to have cancer and undergo chemotherapy and radiation. Through the use of the persona Her Baldness, she hilariously and painfully narrates her experience as a bald woman (a bald, butch lesbian to be more precise) in a heteronormative world.
