What a sweet story of love, loss of love, and opening ones self up. Happy ending, too.

As a children's book, it’s surprisingly realistic, even to the point of being somehow cruel. I appreciate the real-life experiences and circumstances that the author depicted in the story. And most of all, in the end, it assures its readers that there will always be hope. Being able to love makes life worth living.

This is one of my absolute favorite elementary age novels. Edward goes on the most heartwarming, and sometimes heartbreaking, journey. I read it many years ago, but just finished reading it aloud to my nearly 7 year old son and he absolutely loved it. Every night he would ask to read at least one more chapter. You will not regret reading this book!
