Favourite series and this book is SO important to me. While the setting isn't appealing to me at all and I'm not a huge fan of scifi and the aspects it has in this book, the characters and story telling are phenomenal.
The way it makes me fall in love with Nona, the incredible complexities of all of the main characters, the way they change and evolve not so much in a hero's arc but something else entirely, and even the way 'flashback' type storytelling is used... it all just hits so good.
I'm currently halfway through a reread and trust Muir to take whatever time she needs on writing an amazing next book, but nothing has made me fall in love with the world in quite such a special way before. iykyk.

Second read 2/19/2024:
Loved it so much harder this second time around. Reread the whole series back to back this time, and everything made so much more sense. So much more invested in the characters. Nona loves you.
First read 9/13/2022:
Lucky to have scored a digital copy to read the day of the release. Every moment NOT spent working 9/13th was spent devouring this book. I’m def going to skim through again before I return it.
I didn’t LOVE it like I loved the first two, but I love it as a world building interlude. As other reviewers said, it does drag on a bit, and for all its length, there just aren’t too many juicy reveals, and some plot threads that seem to go nowhere. It does feel much more like a very long intermission between books 2 and 3 than it’s own novel, and could have maybe been pared down a bit.
That being said as a critique of the book structure, I love this world, and I love the characters in the spotlight in this book and still super enjoyed it. Constantly surprised and thrilled by Tasmyn Muir’s writing. Really, just whetted my appetite for Alecto to be released next year.
