While I feel like the story thinks it’s trying to tell a deeper message than it is, I really respect the amount of planning that went into the plotting. There’s so many twists and turns and weaving of things together. While it’s definitely not a bad read (I devoured it in less than three and a half hours on this second read, many years after the first) I’m not sure I’ll want to read it again.

the beginning of this book is very cliche YA coming of age, but the emotional turbulence of the plot really sneaks up on you. i love how everything came together and the conclusion is super sweet! if you're looking for an artistic worldview, flawed family relationships, obstacles in queer relationships, and fairly simple prose that is still gorgeous in its own way, this is definitely for you :)
star off for
minor/adult relationship (16 and 19)

This was really enjoyable. It was harder hitting than I thought it was going to be. I honestly forgot what this was about so it was basically a mystery to me. I loved a lot of the topics discussed like grief and family and coming of age as while as sexuality. I really enjoyed the characters even though they were really quirky. I didn’t really love the writing style and how everything was described like it was to arty for me. Which makes sense why because they are artists but it was too much for me at times. Also I didn’t love the age gap of a 16 year old and a 19 year old. They did discuss it but then they just continued on.

AAA this made me so emotional <3 I really like the kind of book that makes me reflect on the way I live life :') the only thing that made me a bit annoyed was how annoying Jude was for a bit in the middle of the story lol other than that, it was lovely!
