Oh, God I did not like the main character at all! He's not only boring but he lies constantly and keeps extremely important information to himself then he wonders why he's not trusted.
There's a lot of descriptions that are useless that I think was put in there for the sake of filling more pages for the book. I often found myself so bored. It's a shame because I really enjoyed the Cyrus Haven series.

This is my first time reading anything by Michael Robotham, and I have to say I think I've found a new series to read. I almost put this down after the first few pages because it just wasn't grabbing my attention. The only reason I stuck with it was because of all the great reviews, and boy am I glad I did. The story is told from the POV of the main character Joe. Joe is a psychologist and is asked to consult on a murder investigation. He realizes that he recognizes the murder victim, a former patient. Things go from bad to worse for him from there. This was a great story. The main character is really interesting, complex, and flawed. The story kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out how he was going to solve this. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I think fans of mystery and suspense novels or police procedurals will enjoy it as well.

While searching for my next audiobook, I realized it’s been awhile since I’ve read any books by Michael Robotham. I wanted to correct that. Further Goodreads research led me to the Joseph O’Loughlin series, which means I have to start with the first book in the series, Suspect. I believe this is Robotham’s first novel.

Joseph O’Loughlin is a psychologist currently providing a lecture to prostitutes on how to best take care of themselves, when he is approached by the police. He is asked to help with the identification of a woman recently found murdered, and who is believed to be a prostitute. It turns out, Joseph knows the murdered woman and their past interactions have been unpleasant.

Joseph has many things going on in his personal life that are extremely positive; a wife, young daughter, and good friend who is a physician. Like most of us, he is also facing some struggles. He and his family moved into a beautiful old home with some expensive plumbing problems. Joseph has recently been...

A Book And A Dog

Solid book, a solid start to a series, no doubt.

Caveat: Hated main character. He's completely blind to his many personal faults and lurches through life almost completely numb. Hey, got a problem? Lie and cover it up. Then proceed to criticize everyone around you who lies and covers things up, as well as people who just don't understand when you lie and cover things up.

The thing is, this is an incredibly well-written character: If you've ever wanted to see a well-nigh pathological liar written with some sympathy, here 'tis. Totally interesting. I just couldn't take him. I probably won't be back, but thumbs up.

A flawless nail-biter. Robotham has a remarkable gift at putting the reader in the middle of the drama that is unfolding. I look forward to reading more of his books.

Oh my goodness! There's a reason I tend to mainly read cozy mysteries: it's because thrillers like these have such gruesome & grim origin stories mired in abuse, coercion and control that become the raison d'etre of everything else that happens. There's no subtlety nor complexity to the linear pop psychology cause and effect diagnosis. Thrilling nonetheless complete with a Hollywood style twist at the end!
