One of my favorites ... Good Night Moon. Love seeing how she got the various parts of her inspiration for the book. A little disappointed in parts .....

This is really well written. It's engaging, and the source material has been pared down well to form a narrative without excess detail, while still giving a clear picture of this vibrant personality. As a Hollins alum and a children's literature lover, I have a great deal of respect for Margaret Wise Brown, and this only added to it.

But man, was her personal life irritating to read about. While she had many wonderful and supportive people in her life, including the illustrator I forever attach to her work, Clement Hurd, she also tended to hang on to relationships that seem almost toxic in hindsight. The point where she decided that in order to grow up, she needed to let go of one unfaithful lover in order to cling to another unfaithful lover made me throw my hands up in frustration. The one she chose to cling to was one who hung on to a belief that she was famous and talented, while constantly criticizing Brown for her work and chastising her for not writing serious literature for adults. I hope Strange knows how forgotten she is, and how lauded Brown is now.

This was a lovely book about an understated author. Nonfiction, but felt like fiction - so whimsical!
