This book is cringe-worthy. First of all the writing style is really inflated although at the same time crude. This makes it a confusing read on that level. Secondly, the writer is creepy and spends a lot of time talking about how he is staring at women's breasts and even mentioned the top-less women as one reason for wanting to go to Micronesia. The Peace Corps should weed such people out.
Thirdly, the writer spends a lot of time judging the culture. It seems there is not much cultural awareness, going so far as to drink with the Chuukese men, when it is well-known that alcohol is not something that the Chuukese can handle well.
I am not sure how this book would come across to someone that does not know the culture, or what kind of impression they would get. However, I cannot imagine that it is good and I think this just feeds the arrogant view of western people. It is frustrating to me.
