Overall an enjoyable read.  There were considerable descriptions of characters that allowed for an in depth psychoanalysis of each character.  Generally I enjoyed this aspect of the book, however this aspect could at times get a little repetitive.  Another complain I have is that at one point there is a claim made that women cannot be scholars in Islam when this is false and can be very misleading to those who have not encountered the religion before.  I cannot think off the top of my head any other false claims but there may be some that I failed to catch.  Other than this I really enjoyed reading The Bastard of Istanbul!
