Moderate: Suicide attempt
I still do not know what to really think about this book but I'm still thinking about it weeks after reading it. While sometimes a litte tiresome, i loved the stream of consciousness narration of Helen for the most part and really liked the jump between her 'gross' thoughts and her traumaSpoiler

I don't know why Goodreads has the German version as the only available one (the same isbn, apparently) but in English, this book is called 'Wetlands' & it just came out as a hyped arthouse movie. Lots of focus has been for the 'transgressive' protagonist, who is a bit fucked up about hygiene, sex, & personal safety. Yeah, it's a bit weird. But it's also compelling. Helen is a very complex and often unlikeable character and her world view is fascinating, unsettling, & completely convincing. I actually really loved it and was completely fascinated by the character & her brittle sanity. & all the attention on her 'transgressive' body relationship is kind of ridiculous. The horrifying parts of this book are completely authentic. It's not shock for shock value, which is frankly very rare & should be celebrated. I've read crime fiction that grossed me out more. In fact, that's probably why I don't read crime fiction. This is a thoroughly crafted & holistically imagined story. It's edgy, unusual, & completely original. Recommended.

Yeah... I tried. I am not squeamish and I'm pretty open minded, but this was just an unending exercise in TMI and "enough already". Not feminist. Not erotic. Not adventurous or exploratory. Save yourself the trouble, unless you're into that kinda thing.

Ok I enjoyed it for it’s outrageousness, but would not recommend this one to a friend, lol

Aquí sí aplica el "¡Diablos, señorita!". La verdad me divirtió y pensé en ponerle más calificación pero tampoco es para tanto.

This book was intense. And explicit. I kept reading solely because I hate to not finish a book. But had I known more about the book, I wouldn't have picked it up in the first place. I felt like a huge perv reading this book in public.
