Wow! I am speechless! When I first read the first one of this series I was intrigued by Peter James and pretty much bought a few of his other books straight away! Yes it did take me a while to get around to it (by a while i mean a year lol) but damn, now I wish I had done it sooner!

If you know me by now, a good mystery has to have death, gore, all kinds of stuff. Do not give me a mystery regarding some theft! I will not read it!

I love Roy Grace as a detective and his whole team as well! His friendship with Glenn I think is pretty wholesome and I quite feel for me and his wife that disappeared 10 years ago. I would very much like to know what happened to her! Did she run off? Was she abducted? Can she possibly still be alive? Maybe they solve it during one of the other books in the series. There's like 20 now!

Also, shortly after I read the first book, I watched the show! Unfortunately, only one episode was released which was based off the first book. I quite enjoyed it to be honest! I didnt really like the cast of Roy himself. I know hes not supposed to be young but in my head he looks young for his age so maybe another actor would have worked better in my head. An amazing job regardless and I am owed more!!

TW: death, kidnapping, stalking, murder, sexual content, blood, body horror, confinement, gun violence, violence, tortur, physical abuse, gore, pedophilia, car accident, alcoholism, homophobia, injury detail, fire, slavery, trafficking, vomit

Looking good dead is the second book of the Roy Grace series and although you could read them as stand alone books you do get much more from them by reading the series in order.

I particularly like the mix of plot and character. Roy Grace is our protagonist and with a good amount of character development my connection to him hadn't wained from the first book. He's a flawed man with baggage but he has a good heart and an excellent work ethic. The balance, however, leans towards the plot which is perfect for me.

This book has a darker more gruesome plot than the first. Check out the trigger warnings, there's a lot to be sure of before heading in to this book. The grit and gore isn't gratuitous though. It's intelligent and shocking and darkly humourous at times.

Right at the end of the book though, there comes a pivotal break in the case that brings about the last sequence of action and its total BS. It's way too convenient and very annoying. Overall, I enjoyed it and I'll definitely read more of the series but that bit of disappointment lost this book a few points.
