The Lies We Tell - The Four #1 - Review

Couple: Winter Huntington & Caiden Cavendish

Author: Becca Steele

Tropes: enemy to lover, step-sibling, dark romance, bully romance, college romance, British romance, upper echelon

Review: We meet the FOUR in this book! The first three books center around Winter and Caiden who are step siblings who hate each other at first. The couple in this book have an instant attraction but strong aversion to each other due to unforeseen circumstances of their parents marriage.

Winter is new to Alstone College and meets Caiden at a party. She instantly feels aware of him but refuses to admit it to herself since he hates her on site. While she is clueless at first to the reasons he hates her, she soon finds out that she has stepped into a war she had no intention of joining. I loved her perseverance in book 1 and her commitment to solving her father’s murder. I think that Winter showcases a strong FMC who refuses to bend to Caiden’s will but also fights back with everything she has.

Caiden struggles in this book with his attraction to Winter and his hatred towards her mother. Since the book is in dual POV, we get to see occasional scenes from his side and learn how affected he is by Winter. I enjoyed the brief glimpses into his mind and the evolution of his character in this book.

The spice heats up about half-way through and their relationship is tested with betrayals and deceptions. As the plot unfolds we learn just how devious WInter’s mother is and how dark the underbelly of Alstone can be. I loved how the plots were revealed in pieces and kept you on your toes! Beware that this book ends on a MAJOR CLIFFHANGER!!

Rating: 9/10, terrific opening to the trilogy!

this book has everything i love, bad boys with tattoos, great friendship and mystery.

the moment i started reading this book i connected with the characters and their twisted dark minds so easily, and i think that’s very important because when you read a book and you connect with the characters you enjoy the book more.

the story itself is great, i love how the author mixes mystery, danger, sex and romance.

i loved the four boys but Caiden and Zayden are definitely my favourites, i like men who are dangerous and mysterious and Zayden and Caiden definitely are that.
And Winter, I LOVE WINTER, she’s so great and confident, she’s not afraid to protect herself and she would do anything for the people she loves, in conclusion she’s great.

AND THAT END, HOLY SHIT, i usually hate when a book ends on a cliffhanger but i’m pretty happy with this one and can’t wait to read the second book.

anyway, if you’re into dark bully romance this book is definitely for you.

After Winter's father died suddenly she wants answers. She transfers to the college close to her mom to get answers. When runs into the four. Cadien, West, Zayde and Cassius. Cadien and Winter's chemistry is out the window. This book had me mad at the four and then loving them. I can't wait to read the next book.

Really great book I read on a random rec. I'm hopeful the second book won't take too long and will give me more answers because there is ALOT of suspense and mystery to unfold! We are far from done as we unravel all the lies and half truths, and I'm really pulling for Snowflake and Cade, plus I NEED more Cass, West, and Z. I see some sparks between a few of them too and I want to see if my suspicions are correct. Can't wait for more!

I love the dynamic between Cade and winter. I wish the author would’ve waited a little longer to get them together so the anticipation could’ve grown more. But, overall it’s been an interesting story. I enjoy the friendship dynamic between the boys and the way they push each other. I love their brotherly friendship that winter has with a couple of them. I also like that there’s a mysterious plot line running through the love interests so it’s not just about the two main characters getting together. Plus, the romance helps fill in the time between clues. I definitely plan to continue this series

What a start to the series!
All of the characters are amazing. The angst the drama, all of it had me on the edge of my seat.

Winter goes to visit her mom after her dad dies, only to realize she's got a new step dad and two step brothers.
Caiden immediately doesn't trust Winter simply because of who she is. He knows his new step mom can't be trusted so that mean Wynter can't be as well. Little does he know, him and Winter are on the same side with that.

They have immediate chemistry, and the sexual chemistry is off the charts.
These two together are amazing. I was rooting for them to figure eachother out from the very beginning.

Absolutely loved this first book!
