The ending hit so hard that I initially wanted to give it a 5, but after chewing on it for a while almost didn’t want it to be a romance so it could 100% focus on her journey of self-discovery/friendships (and this is coming from a romance lover). It felt like either that or the romance could have been more fleshed out if the book picked one, but I loved and wanted both.

Perfect medical romance. I enjoyed this book so much. Angela meets Ricky during the worst time in her life. He cheers her up and helps her relax. She knows he's a great guy except he doesn't want a girlfriend. or does he?
I loved the way this book hits on alot of our insecurities as black women. Shirlene did a great job addressing family and society influences as we try to find ourselves as young adults. One of my favorite endings.

I loved this SO MUCH. Finishing this put me in a bit of a slump because I just want more of these characters.

I saw some reviews talking about how they thought this was a romance book, but it’s not, and they were disappointed. I very much disagree, I knew this was lit fic but all the romantic relationships were lovely and ended well. They were written in a realistic and raw manner that had me crying throughout the entire book.

The main character’s growth was inspiring and relatable. I also love the emphasis on friendship and how important maintaining those relationships is throughout your 20s. The ending had me crying happy tears, I already want to re-read this.

I loved the characters independently, and I really enjoyed the look into that generational trauma that parents can pass to their kids and how the kids deal with that. I also liked the look into becoming a doctor that this book led you through. What I wasn't a big fan of was the relationship between the main characters. I really struggled to feel like they were healthy for each other, or that either were in a healthy mindset for a good relationship. This was sort of included in the plot - but I was never sure if I wanted to root for or against them.
