Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!

The main word I would use to describe Finding My Elf by David Valdes would be fun. This book had me in the holiday spirit in October! I was singing Christmas carols while reading and I'm certain my family is sick of me. The plot of this book was fun and lighthearted. I was invested in the characters and each one certainly grew on me. The main character was slightly unlikeable but not terribly so and their Scrooge-esc behavior was addressed. Finding My Elf had coming-of-age aspects that added to the characters and it was overall just an enjoyable book to read. It felt like I was reading a book infused with Christmas cookies which, is exactly what I was in the mood for.

3.5 & Cute!

First semester away and Cams back home for Christmas break. Cam gets a part time job for the holidays

On the verge of adulthood and using the Christmas backdrop the Elf competition was fun and added all the Christmassy feels as we watched Cam learning who he is and what he wants,

If you're looking for a Christmas story where the holiday isn't just happening in the background, this is it. The entire story centers around Elfmas and the approach of Christmas, with a mall Santa and his elves, candy canes, Mrs. Clause, and the works!

The story has a clear end it's working toward, but with lots of relationship and competition drama along the way. There's also a bit of mystery during the competition and clear stakes as far as what's lost if Cam loses. The relationship aspects weren't as deep as I'd hoped, as most of the focus was on the competition and the family drama around why he feels he needs to win, but there was just enough male-male affection to keep me going.

I had trouble connecting to the MC's personality, but could understand his struggles, so it's still a great holiday read that I'd recommend for some light fun.

Would really give this 3.5 stars. I loved it! It’s a cute silly little gay Christmas story. Unrealistic and cringy at times, but isn’t a Christmas rom-com meant to be? I would definitely recommend it to someone looking for a fun, easy holiday read.
