My second and last attempt at reading Yoshida's work. Yet again mischaracterised as a crime thriller, but at least this time I was prepared for the text more being an analysis of characters instead of any darker event - once again the contrast in judgement of women and men has left a bitter taste.Â
Each chapter is the viewpoint of a different flatmate, and here we consider how close, or how superficial, each person feels about each other, and what moral failing they have. Spoilers for each one:ÂÂ Kotomi is in a relationship with a man who can't dedicate more than once a week to her, Mirai is an alchoholic who trawls bars, Ryosuke has an affair, Satoru breaks into homes and uh. Naoki? murders people? Â
These are all levelled as 'similar terrible issues' when there is a massive discrepancy between the men and women in this flat.Â

Graphic: Murder, Alcoholism, and Violence
