This book is very creative and inspiring, shows a story of a mother and her child moving into a new world only to be lost by the language and life. This book shows the inspiring challahs that the mother faced and how they changed them for the better.

This book is everything. We need to send a copy to everyone in Washington.
Update: Shocked this didn't at least get a Caldecott honor. Baffled really.

Soñadores es un libro ilustrado hermoso. El arte es colorido e imaginativo. La historia es un cuento mágico sobre los poderes transformadores de la biblioteca. Me gustaría leerlo también en inglés.

So I have mixed emotions on this book. To be honest.....I do anticipate this winning the Caldecott medal. And I'm kind of okay with that. It's an immigration story where the library is the center of their new world. So it's a love story in that way. And the illustrations are "acrylics and drawn on paper with ink and brushes. She also photographed and scanned many things". So it's a mixed media book which is always kind of cool =D
BUT. Here's my issue. I feel this book might win because of its message. As I said, it's an immigration story. That is the hot button issue these days. I don't want a book to win because it is one side of the political spectrum or the other. That is not the reasoning behind the Caldecott medal. It is about the artwork (or it should be) and that alone.
Don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed it all. But is it one I will necessarily remember in the way I do "Finding Winnie?" No.

Such gorgeous illustrations! It is difficult to select a favorite spread, because they are so vibrant, so textured, although I have to say that the library ones are wonderful!

Beautiful, especially in use of color. And it's always good to have another book celebrating books and libraries. An immigrant story. And yet it was a little bit of a miss for me. I guess I wanted more. Or less or something. And the art itself was not quite to my taste. But a story worth reading. 3.5 of 5.

I enjoyed this one. The illustrations were good as is the message. I’m not sure how kids would related to but I enjoyed it.
