The Cherry Harvest is an interesting tale taking place in my home state of Wisconsin.

It was a lot of fun to read about these characters in locations familiar to me, even if it’s set in a time long before even my parents were born.

The writing is well done, and the story keeps you engaged but I found I lacked any real connection to the characters, and seemed to stay on the edges of the story instead of fully engulfed within the pages.

This was actually pretty boring! If she was trying to capture how mundane life on a Wisconsin farm was during the second world war, she definitely nailed it!

Author Sanna's novel, which deceptively appears to begin as a historical romance, is extremely well researched with believable, well-drawn characters. However, one of the basic premises of the book--that the family lacked food when living on a farm on the shores of Lake Michigan--rang a little false to me. Furthermore, Charlotte (the mother) seemed mentally ill from the very beginning of the book. Perhaps that was the intent of the author, but I found myself detesting her long before I had any real reason to.
Gripping plot and fascinating setting near Door County, Wisconsin.
