A beautiful, charming and very entertaining book. The world building is absolutely top notch, and I'm amazed at how fleshed out every detail is about this multi-alien pan-galaxy civilisation. The biggest compliment I could give this book is that it reminded me of Mass Effect's world building and characters in the best possible way. It's also really refreshing to read sci-fi with a very wholesome, optimistic tone that tackles difficult issues without feeling grim or dystopian. This is not to say that those themes don't exist in this book, but the overall tone is very reminiscent of Firefly, involving a plucky group of misfits on a spaceship encountering situations way out of their control.

Overall I had a good time reading this. Felt very episodic with not much in terms of overarching themes. I sometimes found the characters to be annoying.

Enjoyed the character building and varied species.  Storyline was okay until Hedra Ka and the Toremi, which seemed rather rushed.

4.25 - I enjoyed the perspective of writing not based on a single ‘main character’ but of the whole group. Parts did seem to drag occasionally but overall an interesting storyline. Felt like a lot of character building so hopefully the next book is more plot focused.
