Super gross lol. My only complaint of Junji ito 's work is that the endings are never "endings". I know that gives it a more mysterious vibe but I personally hate that.

This is the absolute worst Junji Ito story. Besides the goofy meme worthy fish on legs bit all the comic has going on is disgust for fat people and people who don't have clear skin. It's stupid and gross in a way that's not usual for Ito and kinda sucks to read. The scene where the evil doctor's double decker Gyo-blimp gets shot with the corpse cannon from the creepy Gyo circus and then it turns out the the Gyo-blimp actually had wings also is such a spectacularly dumb sequence of pages that I can't say I hate everything in this manga.

So, fucking what the shit?

This story was crazy crazy.
Germs infect fish and then the fish come on to shore and start to infect other animals and then people?
Jesus Christ Ito did an amazing job with this story and the art therein, but it is absolutely fucking insane.
I get the feeling that the theme of this book is the raping of nature via humans and the gradual approach toward humans becoming the commodity for sale of other humans.
As well, I wonder if there is a sexual angle to read this book through as the way in which people are attached to the machines is in an overtly and very intrusive way comparable to rape or sexual assault?

I did think that Kaori was a very one note character that ultimately became a stand in for a object to drive the story forward.
Overall, this story was easily the most stomach churning of all of Ito's works that I have read to this point. His illustrations were horrifically on point, as they always are.
I felt that there were a few loose ends that were not tied up or resolved in this story which is why I am dropping the rating down a little bit.

We are lucky to live in a time where Junji Ito makes manga.

Another insanist story from Junji Ito that had me laughing out loud at the beginning because of how bizarre it was. The toxic (no pun intended) relationship was a good vehicle for this wild plot.

CW: for suicide/suicide attempt.

Unlike Uzumaki, I really couldn't ignore the dumbass character syndrome LEAVE HER ASS TADASHI, P L E A S E .

The horror wasn't even that surprising, it was just fascinating to look at. And the circus scene felt forced? It just kinda came outta nowhere and served no purpose except for Tadashi to find Kaori. Which, speaking of, oh my god was I glad when she fucking died. I really didn't wanna hate her but holy shit Mozzart she's like a crybaby on Skittles.

Stinky fish was great though, amazing character.
