I'm not a big fan of the writing. It's a guardian-ward relationship. Raven was best friends with Reid who lived next door. Reid had a younger sister and an older brother, Milo. Milo took on a parental figure when they were young, for his siblings but also for Raven. He was her legal guardian. Milo confided in her a lot and Raven had a crush on him. Reid was jealous of their relationship and started hating Milo so Raven had to distance herself from Milo. Covid hit and Raven and the others had to move back home. Raven and Milo started fucking each other again and at the end of the book, they were discovered by their family. The book ended on a "cliffhanger" when there was a little flashback reveal where Reid's younger sister told Raven that Reid had a crush on her. It was the most underwhelming cliffhanger in the history of cliffs.

The whole book was just a back-and-forth flashback of Milo and Raven's relationship and the whole time it was just them pushing and pulling each other. There was almost no plot and it just wasn't interesting enough for me. And the smut wasn't even that fun. I think this could've been a very short novella instead.

This series was really amazing, the writing was fantastic deep and emotional.
I loved milo and Raven.
A few things i really liked about book 1...
I like that milo is under the assumption that raven feels the same as he does, that hes made this up in his mind based on his own feelings and the fact that others have said she has a crush on him when in fact the truth is raven only ever objectivly said milo was attractive but never had any romantic or sexual feelings towards him. She only idolised him as a "god" like parental figure. It was so interesting to read the differences in their internal monologue.

Drethi has this way of writing her characters to have such emotional depth so that even though you might not fully relate to them or their actions or personality you can still understand their thought process.
She is so good at making the reader feel a certain type of way for her heros who are really kind of villans with hearts, milo is a good man but with such a darkness its frightening and you do get those sick kind of feelings you would have in real life in a situation you weren't comfortable in but on the other side I'm rooting for milo and raven.

I really enjoyed the psychological part of this story! Apparently my reading taste has been changing.

first time read: 3.5 stars
This book is so fucked up and twisted. The fact that the author said the series would have HEA makes it even darker. This is very close to pure darkness to me. So far I kind of hope Raven would end up with Reid (obviously, not gonna happen), bc Milo is so… I don’t even know how to describe him, let’s say that he’s the most OTT J/P hero I’ve ever read.

If you’re looking for a book with a crazy obsessed psychotic alpha male, don’t look any further! This is a dark romance and won’t be for everyone.

I really tried getting past reading this book despite the warnings but I could not endure Milo's actions anymore. His behavior is just so triggering. It's really devastating how men view women as sexual objects. I think one of the driving factors why both of the MC's were involved in this situation is how their parents escaped each of their problems and dumping the responsibility to the MMC. I'm not going to read the rest of the series and I have a hint that this might be an HEA between MC's. I just do hope that they both heal from the neglect that they experienced from their parents and them being together for a lifetime ( if that is the ending of the series ) won't sit right from my perspective. There are just too many problematic factors for them to hold a lasting relationship.
