I have one huge issue with this book, and it’s an issue that I haven’t experienced this strongly in almost a year. I NEED THE SECOND BOOK. No, there are not any cliffhanger; It was just fantastic. Michelle Bolanger is a very talented writer; I’m extremely shocked this is her first book. I had started to slow my reading because I hadn’t found a book that really WOWED me in months. I’ve read good books, don’t get me wrong, but they all seemed to miss something. This book isn’t missing a thing! It has a strong plot, fantastic characters, and it is paced perfectly. The Kiss does all of this while remaining PG! Yes, you read correctly, a clean new adult book! I was very impressed. I wish I would have saved my favorite quotes, but I didn’t think about it until I was reading the last chapter. I would give it over a 5/5 If I could. I can’t wait for the second book. Go add it to your ‘to-read’ list. It was just released today!

I actually was sucked right into this book and had a hard time putting it down to go to sleep. And then I'm not sure if I just woke up in the wrong mood, or if I just got to a certain part of the book, but I lost my "enamorment" for it. :( Sad panda.
I think in the end I was sucked in by the wrong characters -- ie not the main characters. I am endlessly fascinated by Baden, which may explain why I was so into the first 30% of this book, b/c after that he disappears until the end. Baden was sweet, protective, and you could really feel his best friend love for Leis. He took risks, placed himself in danger, and sought out the truth.
In the end, I just didn't have the same feelings for Leisel or Koen. Not that they were awful characters....it wasn't that. I just wasn't as interested in them. And quite honestly, I'm not entirely sure why. We were told that Leis was strong and a rebel, but I didn't always feel it. And Koen almost felt like he didn't play as big a part as I would have liked....he spent a lot of time on the sidelines (which was by design).
And maybe I just wasn't in the mood for a paranormal with insta-connections (at least it wasn't insta-love) in it? I wanted to see the build up, the getting to know you....it was kind of glossed over and then we were thrust into the action.
And with all the emotion smelling (you'll understand when you read it), I guess I had a hard time with Alexander and Stewart and the way their roles played out. Not going to say more than that.
I found the writing to be quite good, and the premise to be unique. Even the world building was well done (though I wasn't a fan of the Geber term....it sounded funny in my head -- probably b/c I was pronouncing it wrong). So in the end I think this comes down to personal taste, and this book just wasn't a right fit for me.
