The A Plot was interesting but the B Plot was so jarringly hard to read purely because it feels like Empress Theresa and Spider-Man had a wolf child. In werewolf form, he gets spider senses to know where "evil" is and then the threat gets eliminated in like two seconds. Then as a human he constantly gets praised for every aspect of his character and revered like a god simply because he writes good and looks decent.

The book also dragged on - after the plot threads got resolved there was essentially two hours of werewolves gossiping and dropping lore bombs that should've been sprinkled in earlier

Based gay representation though; especially given the context surrounding the book's release (not as many people were aware of LGBTQ stuff at the time and the author was a christian in her 70s)

Werewolves are my favorite monster, and the language is lovely and lyrical, so I really enjoyed it, and I will continue with the series eventually (looks like there's only a second one). I only scored it three stars out of five because of the
bestiality. It was gratuitous and strange. The mani characters only had sex when he was a werewolf; they never consumated their relationship as two humans, only as a human female and a male werewolf. And it was graphic. Graphic and hairy and slobbery.
It was so pretty, and frightening, with these amazing ideas about the nature of good and evil, and then that would happen. I'm no prude, but I don't like when my horror makes me uncomfortable around my dogs.
