Another enjoyable mystery. I predicted part of the outcome, but was surprised by others. All the aftermath and epilogue was a surprise and very satisfying for a couple characters. Ha!!!

Review - One of the best in this series so far in my opinion. I thought that the storyline was complex enough not to lose interest, but not too complicated that you couldn't understand what was going on. I loved the Russian Inspector, and how she was in and out of the story. I wish we had seen more of Elspeth perhaps, and Priscilla, though not in a romantic way. I do think the idea of Hamish getting engaged to a hooker was quite funny.

While the mysteries remain interesting and captivating (I still love Jimmy and Hamish’s friendship), I’m getting bored with the elements of Hamish’s personal life. The will-they-won’t-they with both Priscilla and Elspeth is getting so repetitive. I don’t care if he doesn’t get married, but something needs to change.

I enjoy this series because it is light and amusing and makes for a quick read. Hamish MacBeth seemed a slight bit dafter than normal in this book, as I had no problem guessing the twist, and Blair is the continued arch-enemy/co-worker. The mystery was pretty well-done, despite the twist that MacBeth couldn't figure out. I always have to admire the fact that MacBeth knows what he wants out of life and is not looking to climb the ladder because his life is pretty darn good as is -- it is an attitude I need to keep in mind when looking at my own future.

Her last name may be gentle, and she may act the part of a high-bred sophisticated person, but the lazy but lovable Hamish Macbeth gets different and less positive vibrations from her.
She mistreats her foreign-born maid so much so that the young woman just wants out. The maid fears she’ll be deported, and Hamish agrees to marry her to keep her in Scotland. She asserts that she’s a lesbian, so the marriage will be nominal.
But someone murders her on the day of her sham wedding, so it never happens. Investigations into her life prove she was a Russian-born prostitute, and now the superstitious people in Lochdubh are sure Hamish has aids or something else contagious that prevents them from feeding him or offering him refreshment.
This wasn’t the most gripping ending, but I enjoy this series so much I couldn’t help but enjoy the book. The subplots that include Priscilla, the former love of his life, and Elsbeth, a reporter who was once in a relationship with him, are fun and worth reading.
