Where to begin to describe this book? I cried while reading it... Of course, it wouldn't be a Mighty Nein Origins story without some sadness but there was something about Nott the Brave that felt especially raw. The story and art pulses like an open wound. From meticulous details in the background of each frame to the way emotions are captured on the page, Readers will find themselves easily immersed in the world of Exandria and of Nott.
The book follows Nott's backstory from the very beginning to when she meets Caleb. The pacing of the graphic novel is fast and kept me on the edge of my seat. Even though as a Critical Role fan I was keenly aware of Nott's backstory, I had to read the book in one sitting. I couldn't put this book down.
I think my heart broke during the panel where it's revealed where Nott's mask comes from. The dark tones and creeping vines present in the art encourages the reader to share in the tragedy of Nott/Veth's circumstances.
Fans of the Critical Role will absolutely love this book. I know there are a lot of people missing the Mighty Nein. If you are one of these folks, this is a great graphic novel to pick up. I also believe that people who know nothing about Critical Role have the ability to enjoy Nott the Brave. The story easily stands on its own and the writing is great, making no background knowledge required to enjoy the story.

I’m a big fan of Critical Role. I just got into it this year, starting with campaign 2. I’m only about 40 episodes in, but I already love it. Naturally, I was super excited to find out there’s origin comics coming out.
I have read all the Mighty Nein comics that are currently out. I loved this one just as much as I loved the others. I enjoyed getting to see more of her backstory and learn more about her past. It was nice getting to see it in a different format too. In this comic we get to focus solely on her.
The art is really pretty. It’s very colorful and has nice contrast of colors and darkness.
This comic is good for current fans, to enjoy the character even more in a different format, but also for people new to the Critical Role or DnD universe. This comic is short and sucks you in, leaving you wanting to know more.
These comics are pretty short, but I enjoy every second of them. I could read about these characters forever. I would love if they made more comics, or better yet, a novel with them. Next up is Mollymauk’s comic. The one I’m looking forward to the most!
Overall, I really enjoyed this and would recommend it to anyone.
