Definitely an emotional book, So be prepared. But it’s good. FYI though It is written in third person which is difficult for me to read sometimes. But John and Alyssa were two broken souls you couldn’t put it down.

I enjoyed this story and sort of fell in love with John right off the bat but at some point this began to feel like it was two different stories. I'm still having trouble wrapping my mind around it. I really liked the Johnny and Alyssa of the first half of the book but when tragedy struck everything changed for them.

The Johnny and Alyssa of the second half sort of left me with whiplash. Somehow everything that went wrong was put on Alyssa, even though I'd have to say that I thought things went wrong when Johnny made some dumb decisions and remarks. Though the things that Alyssa did going into the second half only made the situation exponentially worse. I didn't like the direction that the book took after that.

I realize that this stumbling block was the point of the story and might have been necessary for the characters growth but it just didn't sit well with me. I hate that Alyssa had to go through what she did and that her and John were forever changed because of it.

I think that this story will go over very well with readers and the writing was good, but it just didn't hit the mark for me at this time.

This is a friends-to-lovers book that could have gone a lot of ways. We were introduced to the two main characters in a previous book, "You'll Think Of Me". The snippet we got of these characters was short but telling; John was drunk, arguing with her in a bar, and she was clinging to another guy saying that she wasn't John's girlfriend. When we finally get the backstory to this, it's even more brutal than what I could imagine.

There are key points in this book where the author could have taken different paths. When this couple first deals with tragedy, instead of leaning on one another, one of them does the complete opposite and turns inward. Thus begins the rollercoaster of a relationship between these two. I gotta say, for a couple that was destined to be torn apart, they found themselves back together in the end in extremely beautiful fashion.

There was a lot of growth that these two needed to do, and this author gave them plenty of room to do it. Their friends-to-lovers romance spanned years and showed us heartbreak beyond heartbreak. In the end, when they get their HEA, I wish I could have seen more of them happy together.
