Oh my. THIS BOOK!! This book has been sitting in my kindle for months now and I never got around to reading it because I figured it was just another over-hyped book. While yes it might be a little over-hyped..I still LOVED it!

In terms of creepiness, only the first part where Anna gets introduced freaked me out a bit and only because I started it late at night. After that, it wasn't that bad and not over-ly gory IMO.

I really liked all the characters - Cas, Anna, Thomas, Carmel - and how they teamed up for their "mission". I wasn't expecting that haha I thought the dialogue and humor was very funny and entertaining. There were even some parts that made me laugh out loud.

The only problem I have with this book is all the unanswered questions that are still remaining. Why didn't Anna want to kill Cas? What's up with the knife and the voodoo stuff at the end? I'm assuming these will all be answered in the second book (which I have heard is even better than the first). Can't wait to read [b:Girl of Nightmares|13512411|Girl of Nightmares (Anna, #2)|Kendare Blake|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1335469145s/13512411.jpg|17492836]!

Probably more like a 4.5, but whatever

My only real complaint is the nationality/religion of the villain. It felt a little like cultural appropriation. Everything else is great with some 2011 slang thrown in there.

Anna Dressed in Blood, a paranormal love story. Ghost hunter falls in love with a dead girl.

Spoiler-1 star for the use of effing/fuck/fucking. I just don't think it is necessary. One occasion he called people assholes, why? Well they just nodded at him and didn't want to shake his hand.
It is not that intrusive, I am sure many wouldn't mind. But I can say it annoys me.

I really liked the story. The idea of a ghost hunter falling in love with a girl who is dead and who he needs to exorcise and how everything goes way different then planned is a nice one.

I like how Cas changed through the story, from I will do it all by myself, he learns to make friends and trust them. I am happy to see he makes friends (eventhough he wasn't really willing, but I am guessing that is probably because he is afraid he will have to move again and will lose them).

Though Cas had some stereotype behaviour that you would see in horror movies. The whole don't go in the house, it will kill you (or atleast will try to) stereotype. He kept going back to the house, sure it went ok every time (meaning he didn't get killed), but again, you would say he would stop, but apparently he really wanted to go there.

Mike and his friends annoyed me in the beginning, I don't tend to like that type of person.
Wacking someone with a board and then dragging them in an haunted house and leave them for dead/waiting for Anna to appear. Who does that? Really? Luckily Anna spares Cas and his life (for no apparent reasons by then). Though she kills Mike (really gruesome, it still gives me shivers knowing how he died).

The gore, some parts gave me goosebumps (reading some parts of it during the night isn't a good idea). But it fits the story.

The first time they saw Anna was quite scary, not knowing what she is, not knowing how she would look. The cover helped quite a bit with what she would look like but that is only the backside of her. Luckily the author describes everything, from the blood dripping of her dress to the black eyes, black veins. I could so imagine how Anna looked.

I never expected the last part to become that way. They freed Anna, saw her (really gruesome) past, and now she isn't a demon/vengeful spirit any more. But suddenly murders are happening, and the knife is gone.
I always had a feeling the rats on the attic were more then just rats, I thought it might be something bigger, especially with the cat acting the way he did when they first moved in. It always gave me shivers, and when Cas his mom told him there was something bigger I got goosebumps all over.
And yes, it turned out it was the same ghost/voodoo spirit that had killed Cas his father years ago.
The knife apparently was their link, he could follow Cas wherever he would go. And while Cas was out ghost killing and putting them to rest.. the voodoo spirit would eat the ghosts Cas killed.

In the end a big mighty fight happened and Anna sacrified herself to save Cas and their friends. Or atleast, she dragged him to some hole (probably hell) and disappeared.

I might try book 2, I am hoping that it contains less effing/fucking/curse words. I still have questions, like where did Anna go? What happened to the voodoo spirit? And many more. So I might just buy it when the paperback comes out next year. (Gah almost 1 year wait :().

Anyways, I would recommend this book to everyone who is in for a little twist to the ghost hunter stories that are around.

Title: 13-Year-Old Me and 19-Year-Old Me Do Not Agree

Hmmm, I really don't know how I feel about this book anymore. It was good but it didn't really blow me away.

description

What I Liked
- It was totally original and so it felt like nothing I had read before (except I had read this book before).
- I love anything to do with the dead. That sounds so morbid but the afterlife and dying are just so interesting to me and I love reading books centered around them, fictional or not.
- The side characters were amazing and I love how they got more time in the book as it went on because they felt like real people trying to help out a friend.
-The writing was great. The descriptions were just enough and the dialogue felt natural for kids their age.

What I Didn't Like
- Something kept me from connecting with Cas. He just felt flat and lifeless (lol) and not someone I could picture correctly.
- It sadly wasn't interesting enough for me to want to read the sequel. I just don't care enough about Cas and Anna to want to read it.

2013
When the ending happened I wanted to tear the book apart. Not that it was bad it was so infuriating. Cas has a spark of luck and then it disappears. I hope this review is mysterious enough to get ya to read it. Full of love and entrancing moments this deserves so many more stars than I can give it.

A teenager with ghost killing in his blood and vengeance in his dreams. He works alone. He has a tragic back story and a winning smile. And we assume we can look forward to a scary yet beautiful (and beautifully dressed) ghost. My reaction? Meh.
I listened to the Audiobook, and I don't recommend it. The accents are terrible, and the characters are stereotyped by their voicings. Carmel, the beautiful queen bee in the Thunder Bay, Ontario high school, talks like a valley girl. Revealing some of her depth of character and bad ass-ery was unconvincing in the audiobook, but I hope slightly more believable in the print version.

Okay I was so excited about starting this, ready for a really creepy read and I was so disappointed. It did get better in about the last quarter of the book so that's why it redeemed itself and got 3 stars, but I wanted to DNF it so many times.

I didn't like the characters, didn't feel any connection between any of them like there was meant to be. When it finally picked up it was a lot better and now I do want to read Girl of Nightmares so I can find out what happens with Anna. Glad I did finish it bc the ending made the rest of it kind of worth while.

Kendare Blake’s writing style is so easy to follow and get you immersed into the world however, with this book I didn’t feel as immersed in the characters which may have been a factor to my lowered enjoyment of this book as opposed to others. That being said I did find the characters and the storyline unique compared to what I usually read, it just wasn’t my style I think.

Okay, I admit, I did NOT expect to like this as much as I did - even with my awesome editor's recommendation. Especially when I realized that it was written 1st person...from a boys POV.

Still...OMG, it took a turn I was so not expecting. It was awesome, surprising, fun. I liked all of the main characters, even the Prom Queen. :) Great mix of people and magic and so much action. Definitely worth it, and I will continue to always listen to my editor if this is the result!
