The time travel plot becomes about ensuring that the man responsible for the colonization/mass extinction of Hawaii/ans is still able to do so, so uh. Even apart from that (as if that wasn’t enough) the plot was pretty muddled and the book has a really unsatisfying ending that felt like a huge cliffhanger except the author said there would be no sequel. By the end you don’t even know if half of the characters are alive or not.
