Superb - there might not be the same amount of murders as in some crime novels, but the questioning of different characters sends you ricocheting from one suspect to another until you are never quite sure who is guilty and why? I will definitely read more of Karin Fossum's books.

I enjoyed this book and gobbled it down in the way you can with mysteries, but I'm miserable at guessing whodunnit (which makes reading mysteries more fun) and I had this one figured quickly. Still, the set-up is interesting and, aside from a few questionable bits, the characters well-drawn. Not to give up too much, but the scene that focuses on the mourning father at the crematorium was harrowing in a way one doesn't expect from a police procedural. I'd read more Inspector Sejer books, but so far the supremacy of Per & Wahlöö and Mankell in Scandinavian crime fiction remains unchallenged in my view.
