I really enjoyed this look at science and dark matter and what made the dinosaurs go extinct. It was accessible, not too technical, and I learned a lot!

A lot of interesting concepts, particularly the one introduced in the title, but--and this may be my own fault for not having proper expectations--but this read a lot more like an academic essay or something meant for journals to be read be other scientists and professionals in the field and not for the layperson to enjoy.

I've been on an astrophysics kick lately and was hoping this would be another one that would open my mind to greater understanding of the cosmos. This just meandered and jumped around a little too much for me, introducing concepts that they wouldn't get back to for several chapters. I liked the sort of familiar style they were writing in but it quickly started to feel like it wasn't being written with me, an average ding-dong in mind. Like overhearing someone's interesting conversation with their colleagues but feeling left out most of the time.

Because of that it became a bit of a chore to finish. I did still learn stuff and I take value in that, but I hope to find more books that don't make me feel like I'm not in their science clique.

I wanted to like this book more than I did. The premise is amazing - discovering the interconnection of the universe through the lens of a radical new theory - but ultimately, the author failed to deliver. The book had a lot of high level science terminology presented in a bland format that did not encourage any sort of marvel at the supposed interconnectedness of the universe. In the end, the entire book felt like a way for the author to capitalize on her paper of the same subject, with alluring “it” words to lure people in (black matter, dinosaurs).

And speaking of dinosaurs, they were hardly in this book and I feel cheated.

Dry, boring, and overlong. Not much about the dinosaurs, so don't go into this thinking that's what it's about. It's really a book on astronomy and astrophysics. My favorite part was when one sentence ended out of nowhere, the entire second half, the linchpin of an entire section, unprinted. Great job by the editors on this one, (he says, sarcasm dripping from his utterly bored soul)
