I've been reading the Dark Protectors in random order as they show up with promo prices. The relationship development between the hero and heroine is the strongest part of the narrative, both believable and hot. As with the others in the series, I find too much page time devoted to a 'too cute' child who is some kind of chosen one. The big stumbling block for me though are the villains. They are just too over the top evil. They are also really noticeable in appearance. In the days of camera phones and internet, how are they keeping a low profile?

Fated is the first book of a three part series. I will admit that I had a hard time reading this book. Usually I love the main male character being in Alpha mode. With this book though, the Alpha male seemed more of pushy and forceful male that was not as attractive as I wanted him to be.

Yes, the book was steamy in in the sex factor, and yes it had the paranormal vampire story that is hot right now, but the way the two are thrust together was not impressive to me. Cara has a daughter to think about and she was suppose to just accept being away from her daughter? For five weeks? Um, no. She was just suppose to fall in love with Talen and jump into bed with him while there is danger lurking around? Um, again no. While some of this plot could have been believable, the way it was written left me with the feeling that the author was trying to force their relationship to work when I was have too many doubts. Plus he pratically forces her to "mate" with her after she tells him repeatedly no.

Again, I wasn't a big fan of the story. If you like your alpha's with a very forceful nature, then give it a go. You might enjoy it, yet I think Talen could have been a better character if it was toned down quite a bit. The only thing that saved this story from getting a one star rating was the fact that I fell in love with Cara's daughter. She was a delight whenever she was in a scene.

I have to say I'm not a fan of the fact that these men won't take no for an answer. It sets off all my alarms. That said, it was still a good book. Talon is to gruff and he man for my tastes but I like his mate and new daughter. My daughter is her age (4) and if she had that kind of power/ability oh boy I can just imagine how awe inspiring and terrifying that would be.

I am not a big vampire fan, but I was willing to give this a shot. The way this book started out made me wonder if Cara knew her daughter had special powers, senses, talents.

I kept thinking that if she knew Janie had the ability to sense things, why did she fight Talen so much? I found the beginning of the book to be a bit confusing.

As I ventured further down the path the book laid out, there was the villainous group with the unbalanced creepy son, the shifter population, and the good vampires. The villains just seemed to irritate me.

I like this author's work. A couple of her series, I just seemed to absorb because I read them so fast. They were that good. This book was not one of those. It was a struggle. Maybe it had that "first book in a series" syndrome for me. I have often read a first book and thought about not continuing. I decide to give the 2nd book a chance and end up enjoying a really good series.

I will try the next book. Cara didn't do much for me, and I didn't get any sense of connection between her and Talen, no matter how many times he had to save her life. 2.5 stars.

Read this review linked above for everything that’s wrong with this book.

I have passed on this series a million times but I hit a dry spot and in desperate need of something spicy to read, I tried this. But Carmen is 100% accurate. This is very much in the vein of Christine Feehan and forced mating and a world where the heroine gets zero say in anything at all related to her life. It’s a nightmare scenario where a man comes in, kidnaps her, forces marriage, and dictates how everything will go for her from now on. They are not equals, which is the difference between this garbage and other Uber alphas like those in Suzanne Wright’s books.

Sigh.
