Profound and thought-provoking, this book will keep you thinking on your impact on the world. I grew up in a conservative family and I was still quite young when the Obamas were in the White House, so I really didn’t know (or care tbh) about them other than they’re the first black family and that’s really cool. Through this book, I found that I love the Obama’s!! What I love most about and can relate to with Michelle is that she tries to stay away from politics and not be political (obviously, that’s hard when you were FLOTUS). That’s the mindset that I often find myself in: politics CAN help with change, but by planting little seeds, change will develop through time. Do what’s best for you and the people around you. Take the time to appreciate everyone.

This was my book of 2019- started on audiobook (her narration is very good!) then a library book then I bought a copy, but all worth it because it wasn’t a quick read- I wanted to sit and think about a lot of it. I was suprised by how introspective she was and how much context and history she brought to her story. I enjoyed everything up to the White House chapters, which gave me some insight into life there, but felt odd and slightly defensive considering everything that’s happened since. Definitely worth a read!

What can I say? She has completely captured my heart. I love her and respect her and am grateful for the eight unpaid years of service she gave our country. She is a wonderful role model for young people. She exemplifies female values non-stop in her constant nurturance and mentoring of young people worldwide. She exemplifies American values in her focus on optimism and seeing things through the lens of possibility.
We were lucky to have her. I want to recommend her life story to you. Mrs. Obama said her publisher told her how unusual it was for America to read the life story of a working class black American female. It's particularly fun to listen to as an audio book because it's just like she is in the room with you telling you her story. Thanks to Michelle Obama, I predict this won't be the last life story of a black American female the nation will read. May God bless her and keep her and her family.

This is my first ever serious autobiography and I fell even more in love with Michelle. I was so invested in her life as an African American child in school. I enjoyed reading about her family and her school life. I was inspired on how she advocated for her own education as a second grader and how she continues to dedicate herself to the education and health young girls and boys in American schools.

I was looking forward to hearing about her love story with Barack which is why I wanted to read this book in the first place. I was not disappointed. Barack was the classic boyfriend and both had the classic love relationship. They matured together and went through the typical struggles a "normal" couple goes through including Barack not wanting to get married! It kindled my heart to read such an honest description of love.

My favorite part was reading about Michelle in The White House as a mom of two young girls. I learned so much about her being a working mother and her intensity to making her girls' life seem as normal as possible.

Excellent book. What could I say? It’s a good perspective to understand in understanding our history as a nation. Should be required reading.

I've found my new hero. Oh Michelle, thank you for giving me a glimpse into your inspirational life. I loved this so much and know it will help me become a better Mom, woman, and human. Maybe I too have a "swerve" in me. I hope to grow up and have the same amount of class, dignity, drive, empathy, passion, and heart as you. What an incredible woman. ❤

First one all, 5 stars simply because Michelle Obama is that GIRL?!?! My God!!! The excellence, the grace, the brilliance..She’s the mothereffing GOAT. As a woman, a black woman to be exact, this book filled me with hope.It filled me with purpose. It filled me lessons of triumph and defeat. This woman exemplifies and defines what it means to be a woman in America. She’s the embodiment of strength and dedication. As our first lady, she has dealt with racist bigotry and racial caricatures of her blackness. She has had people not even deserving to breathe the same air as her speak down on her character.Through it all, she never reduced herself to the pettiness that she oh so well would have deserved to give in my opinion. When they go low, we go high is no cap for this woman. She lived it and continues to do so.This is a book I will carry with me always. The insight, knowledge and the overall joy I experienced from this is something I will never forget. Thank you Michelle Robinson Obama for being our first lady and showing the world what it means to carry ones self with dignity.
