Well, my public library got the book.
I am sad to say that I didn't enjoy this book as much as I loved the first one. This one felt like it just stood still. All the characters were doing things, but the storyline never really went anywhere.
Janie is in school in America when she remembers and is contacted by Benjamin. She ends up kidnapped.
Everyone from the first book is separated. It takes most of the book for everyone to meet up again. It just didn't have the excitement and in-your-face action like the first one did.
I'm pretty sure there will be another book in this series since there is an open ending to this one.

This book was in our juvenile collection but deals with the issues of death and romance. Ms. Meloy uses clever imagery and description to depict the characters transformation throughout the story. I highly recommend this book for tweens and teens who love a magical story that's mixed with a little espionage. I loved the apothecary and equally loved the apprentinces, although I was less than pleased with the surprise ending.

This series is intriguing but ultimately the time period is oppressive and the characters a little too narrowly drawn.

‘Set in 1954, this sequel to The Apothecary features the same fun, fast-moving formula as the first book, with charming characters and exciting intrigue mixed with a handful of magic.’

Second installment of The Apothecary series and I was immensely happy. I did find it to move kind of slow but I appreciated seeing Janie (the female lead) showing her practice of science. As a young woman in STEM myself having a character to look up to was very comforting to me.
